Abstract	The article considers the issue of the discourse of history from the point of interpretative theory of translation. “Intertexuality” of the discourse of history complicates its communicative modality and results in abundance of lexis from different language layers. The peculiarities of the discourse of history cause the translator’s necessity of classifying the discourse elements into nucleus and periphery. The classification enables application of such main strategies as: “foreignization” aimed at retaining foreign elements of a source language and “adaptation” aimed at adapting the foreign elements to a target language.
