Abstract	The main approaches to the translation of the humorous folklore discourse taking into account translation principles, genre peculiarities, system of genre-formative indications are considered in the article. One of the constituent parts of the translation competence in the sphere of the humorous folklore discourse is background knowledge. The metacommunicative function in this type of text is an original commentator of the so-called "complicated places" which finds its explication in the translator's references and commentaries. In order to obtain adequate translation of the humorous folklore discourse it is also important to take into consideration different style-formative factors.
