Abstract	In the article the author considers the problem of rendering the socio-cultural component of anthroponyms and toponyms in the literary works of fantasy genre. The main difficulties while rendering the semantically coloured names are pointed out and the typical translator’s mistakes are defined. There was set the task of creating a description of a set of translation techniques aimed to preserve the socio-cultural component of the onomastic lexis.
