Abstract |
The relationship between trade liberalisation and the environment has received a great deal of attention in recent years. One particular focus of attention has been on the possible influence of environmental regulations on global trade patterns. It has been claimed, for example, that trade between two countries with different levels of environmental regulations will lead to the low regulation country specialising in pollution-intensive production. A number of authors have empirically tested whether environmental regulations affect trade patterns, although results have been inconclusive.
