Abstract |
The paper describes the electrochemical behavior of supercapacitor electrodes in both positive and negative
ranges. This study has become possible due to development of a special reference electrode, which is
stable in aprotic electrolytes like, e.g., 1.3 M Et3MeNBF4 in acetonitrile. Three-electrode measurements
have enabled us to find the boundary potentials for various nanoporous carbon materials to be then used in
the supercapacitor technology. This article describes how the electrode size can be optimized to get the
maximum charge value in the double electric layer at the electrode-electrolyte interface. Besides, we illustrate
how the supercapacitor rated voltage can be increased up to 2.9 V as compared with the typical value
of 2.7 V. This provides the 15 % increase in energy and power.
