Abstract |
Thermal wound is one of the most common types of injuries that provoke damages of skin. According to WHO, even in peacetime the share of burns ranges from 5,6 to 10 % and ranks the third in the general structure of traumatism. The primary goal in the management of burns is to achieve rapid healing with optimal functional and aesthetic results. In recent years, a large number of research groups are dedicated to producing a new and improved wound dressing by synthesizing and modifying biocompatible materials. In particular, efforts are focused on the use of biologically derived materials such as, chitin and its derivatives, chitosan, which are biodegradable, nontoxic, antimicrobial and hydrating
agents. Due to these properties, they show good biocompatibility and positive effects on wound healing. |
