Abstract	The basic idea of political correctness was to avoid language that would degrade individuals or groups or discriminate against them on the grounds of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, and so on. Some of the most interesting changes that have taken place in the English language over the last 30 years have been driven by the desire to avoid, if not banish, sexism in the language.
