Abstract	The article is dedicated to description a new look on criteria of international river as a precondition for improvement of management of the planet’s freshwater resources in the interests of humanity. Transport, geographical, legal, political criteria and criterion of transterritoriality of international rivers is analyzed by the author. Стаття присвячена пошуку нових підходів до визначення критеріїв міжнародної ріки як передумови вдосконалення управління прісноводними ресурсами планети в інтересах людства. Автор аналізує транспортний, географічний, правовий, політичний критерії та критерій транстериторіальності міжнародних рік.
