Особливості перекладу промов американських президентів (на матеріалі промов Барака Обами та Джо Байдена)

Abstract

Мета: визначення особливостей перекладу політичних виступів президентів США за допомогою аналізу лексичних та стилістичних особливостей, а також перекладацьких трансформацій на матеріалі промов Барака Обами та Джо Байдена. Теоретичне значення: поглиблення знань про переклад політичних промов, розкриття понять політичної промови, перекладу та перекладацьких трансформацій. Дослідження сутності політичної промови, її видів, структури та впливу на громадську думку відкриває нові перспективи у розумінні мовленнєвої діяльності в політичній сфері. Аналіз лексичних та стилістичних особливостей дозволяє визначити потенційні складнощі перекладу. Аналіз перекладацьких прийомів у промовах американських президентів Барака Обами та Джо Байдена дозволяє виявити стратегії перекладу, що впливають на ефективність та точність перекладу політичних виступів. Методи дослідження: аналіз літературних джерел, метод словникової дефініції для надання визначень термінів «політична промова», «переклад» та «перекладацькі трансформації», порівняльний аналіз текстів оригіналу та перекладу для визначення особливостей застосування перекладацьких прийомів для досягнення адекватного перекладу промов американських президентів, метод відбору та обробки мовного матеріалу, вивчення та узагальнення теоретичних аспектів перекладу, бесіда. Основні результати: Провівши дослідження ми визначили, що політична промова є важливою для кожного президента, адже під час заздалегідь підготовленого виступу, президент США має змогу продемонструвати своє лідерство, проінформувати громадян щодо своїх планів, цілей, певних результатів. Хоч існують різноманітні промови, президент намагається просувати свою політику та цілі, справити лише гарне враження на слухачів під час кожної з них. Переклад політичних промов має ключове значення у порозуміння між країнами і є необхідною умовою міжнародної комунікації. Оскільки мова політика наповнена лексичними та стилістичними засобами, іноді в мові перекладу відсутні точні еквіваленти для таких одиниць. У такому випадку перекладач повинен застосувати трансформації для передачі значення, збереження стилю та емоційного забарвлення. У методичній частині нашого дослідження ми визначили особливості навчання перекладу у ВНЗ, що є важливим та відповідальним процесом, націленим на розвиток перекладацької компетентності студентів. Ми виявили, що важливо надавати студентам можливість активної участі та самостійності, розвивати їх відповідальність та надавати реальний досвід перекладу. Практика на заняттях повинна імітувати реальні перекладацькі завдання, а викладачі повинні враховувати труднощі, з якими можуть стикатися студенти.

Goal: to determine the translation peculiarities of American presidential speeches by means of the analysis of the use of lexical and stylistic devices, as well as translation transformations on the material of Barack Obama’s and Joe Biden’s speeches.

Theoretical meaning: deepening knowledge of the political speeches’ translation, defining the concepts of political discourse, translation, and translational transformations. Investigating the essence of political discourse, its types, structure, and impact on public opinion opens new perspectives in understanding linguistic activities in the political sphere. Analyzing lexical and stylistic features allows identifying potential translation difficulties. The analysis of translation techniques in the speeches of American Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden reveals translation strategies that affect the effectiveness and accuracy of translating political speeches.

Research methods: analysis of literary sources, the dictionary definition method to provide definitions of terms “political speech”, “translation”, and “translation transformations”, comparative analysis of the original and translated texts to determine the peculiarities of the translation techniques application to achieve an adequate translation of the American presidents’ speeches, the method of selection and processing of language material, study, and generalization of theoretical aspects of translation, and conversation.

Main findings: Through our research, we have determined that political speeches are crucial for every president, as during a prepared address, the American president has the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, inform citizens about plans, goals, and specific outcomes. While various types of speeches exist, the president aims to promote their policies and goals, leaving a positive impression on the audience during each one. The translation of political speeches plays a key role in international understanding between countries and is a necessary condition for international communication. Since political language is rich in lexical and stylistic elements, sometimes there are no exact equivalents in the translated language. In such cases, translators must apply transformations to convey meaning while preserving style and emotional nuances. In the methodological part of our research, we identified the features of teaching translation in higher education institutions, which is a crucial and responsible process aimed at developing students’ translation competence. We found that it is essential to provide students with opportunities for active participation and independence, to develop their responsibility, and to offer real translation experience. Practical exercises in classes should simulate real translation tasks, and instructors should consider the difficulties that students may encounter.
