Abstract Harmful substances can enter the human and animal body in three main ways: with drinking water, food, and with the air we breathe. Smoking is a combined way of getting harmful substances into the human body: through the lungs with air and through the gastrointestinal tract with saliva. With tobacco smoke, an aerosol containing solid and liquid dispersed phases, more than 2000 substances enter the body, including about 70 substances that can cause cancer (Leah M. Ranney, Sarah D. Kowitt et al., 2019).
