Abstract У статті розглянуто визначних особистостей, які навчалися та працювали у Глухівському учительському інституті. Проаналізовано їх біографічні дані та наукові здобутки. Описано вагомий внесок випускників та викладачів Глухівського учительського інституту у розвиток освіти, педагогіки та культури України. Також визначено їх вплив на реформи освіти, педагогічні методики, методики викладання, наукові дослідження, культурне життя тощо. Особливу увагу приділено значенню участі випускників та викладачів у становленні саме, національної системи освіти, збереженні культурної спадщини держави та громадської діяльності. Проаналізувавши вагомий внесок діячів можна стверджувати про їх важливу роль у функціонуванні інституту, як важливого центру підготовки педагогічних кадрів та його внесок на розвиток інтелектуальної еліти України.
The article examines prominent personalities who studied and worked at the Hlukhiv Teacher’s Institute. Their biographical data and scientific achievements were analyzed.The significant contribution of graduates and teachers of the Hlukhiv Teachers’ Institute to thedevelopment of education, pedagogy and culture of Ukraine is described. Their impact oneducation reforms, pedagogical methods, teaching methods, scientific research, cultural life,etc. is also determined. Special attention is paid to the importance of the participation ofgraduates and teachers in the formation of the national education system, the preservation ofthe cultural heritage of the state and public activities. Having analyzed the important contributionof the actors, it is possible to affirm their important role in the functioning of the institute, as animportant center for the training of pedagogical personnel and its contribution to the developmentof the intellectual elite of Ukraine.The Hlukhiv Teacher’s Institute was founded back in 1874. And even then he played animportant role in the training of teaching staff. Both then and now, the educational institution isa center of education and culture, which produces specialists who make a significant contributionto the development of education, science and culture. It is worth noting the fact that among thegraduates of the institute there are not only teachers, but also scientists, actors, writers, culturalfigures and politicians. It was these people who were able to shape the educational system andinfluenced the formation of the Ukrainian intelligentsia and beyond. Analysis of biographicaldata and other sources allows us to find out in more detail the fact that this type of educationalinstitution raised and trained a generation of innovators. After all, graduates and future teachersbecame the personification of the novelty and traditions of education, because they studied inthe atmosphere of innovative methods. Therefore, this article aims to outline the outstandingpersonalities of the institute, who significantly influenced the formation of the educational fieldand not only that.The sources of the research topic are presented in the State Archive of the Sumy Region,the archive of the Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University named after Oleksandr Dovzhenko.These are mostly memories of high school students (M. Vasylenko) and teachers. An importantplace in this topic is occupied by biographies of pedagogical workers, their resumes,autobiographies, letters of praise, etc.It is worth starting with outstanding teachers, the majority of whom became rectors of theinstitute. Namely, Dmytro Mykhailovych Haran. A well-known teacher and leader. He devotedmost of his life to pedagogy, namely teaching such subjects as history in various educationalinstitutions (Kurok, 2019). He also worked as a teacher, was the director of the institute (1938-1941; 1943-1945).Therefore, the Hlukhiv Teachers’ Institute played one of the main roles in the formation ofUkrainian national consciousness. Teachers and students of this institution became activeparticipants in cultural and social life, contributing to the development of Ukrainian statehood.The institute produced not only teachers, but also talented artists, writers, scientists and publicfigures who left a significant mark in the history of Ukraine.
