Остін “Pride and Prejudice” та його перекладу «Гордість і упередженість», виконаного Володимиром Горбатьком. У роботі викладено теоретичне підґрунтя розуміння феномену «реалія», їх класифікація та зазначено основні напрямки вивчення перекладознавчої проблеми. Виконана спроба наблизитися до визначення перекладацької категорії «реалія» й «культурна реалія» через поняття споріднених термінів: лакуна, безеквівалентна лексика, культурні посилання та культурно-специфічна лексика. У роботі розглянуто підходи до диференціації реалій, вибраних із тексту оригіналу аналізованого роману. Відмічено, що значна частка виділених класів стосувалася саме опису класових ознак та впорядкування їх відносин, що пояснюється ідіостилем Дж. Остін. Виявлено й прокоментовано перекладацькі прийоми, застосовані українським перекладачем. На конкретних прикладах описано застосування перекладацьких прийомів і проаналізовано їх доцільність з позицій збереження авторської прагматики. Було виявлено як конкретні, так змішані прийоми відтворення, прокоментовано доречність їх поєднання. У результаті зазначено, що різноманіття реалій вимагає індивідуального підходу до кожного типу й лексеми зокрема. Наголошено на важливості володіння перекладачем фонових знань про історію і культуру англійського суспільства, а також особливості побуту сучасників Дж. Остін, зважаючи на часову та культурну дистанцію між романом та українським читачем. Було виявлено перекладацькі прийоми, які, на думку авторів статті, невдало відтворювали авторську прагматику. Також описано випадки перекладу культурно маркованих одиниць, де переклад нівелював авторську прагматику без втрати цінності для розуміння тексту україномовним читачем. Були наведені вправи для тренування навичок роботи перекладачів із культурними реаліями.The master's thesis deals with the problem of preserving national specificity in the translation of 18th-century English-language realities in the English-Ukrainian languages on the example of J. Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice and its translation Pride and Prejudice by Volodymyr Horbatko. The paper outlines the theoretical basis for understanding the phenomenon of "realia" and their classification, indicates the main directions of studying the translation problem. An attempt is made to approach the definition of the translation categories "reality" and "cultural reality" through the concepts of related terms: lacuna, non-equivalent vocabulary, cultural references and culturally specific vocabulary. The paper examines approaches to differentiating realities selected from the original text of the analysed novel. It is noted that a significant proportion of the identified classes concerned the description of class features and the ordering of their relations, which is explained by J. Austen's idiom. The translation techniques used by the Ukrainian translator are identified and commented on. Specific examples are used to describe the use of translation techniques and analyse their appropriateness from the point of view of preserving the author's pragmatics. Both specific and mixed methods of reproduction were identified, and the appropriateness of their combination was commented on. As a result, it is noted that the diversity of realities requires an individual approach to each type and lexeme in particular. The importance of the translator's background knowledge of the history and culture of English society, as well as the peculiarities of the life of J. Austen's contemporaries, given the time and cultural distance between the novel and the Ukrainian reader, is emphasised. The article reveals the translation techniques that, in the authors' opinion, unsuccessfully reproduced the author's pragmatics. The article also describes cases of translation of culturally marked units where the translation levelled the author's pragmatics without losing its value for the Ukrainian-speaking reader's understanding of the text.
