Internationalisation and quality assurance in higher education have thus become two core policy issues to aid Ukraine’s efforts in becoming a full member of the European Higher Education Area. Within the THEA Ukraine project (October 2019 – September 2021), 32 Ukrainian Higher Education Administrators received training in the field of internationalisation in higher education and science management. The participants worked on individual application projects to foster the international orientation of their home institutions, which are located all over Ukraine. The implementation of this project has provided material for a number of case study descriptions of projects undertaken in the THEA Ukraine framework, as well as general perspectives on internationalisation in higher education; this anthology covers both of these aspects. https://www.hb.fh-muenster.de/opus4/frontdoor/index/index/docId/13985Сучасна вища освіта стикається з низкою тенденцій. У цій роботі автори намагалися зосередити увагу на одній з них, а саме: на інтернаціоналізації в Європі та Україні. По-перше, у вступі представлено концепцію віртуальної інтернаціоналізації, окреслено термінологію та класифікацію. Далі представлена особлива форма віртуальної інтернаціоналізації, така як: міжнародне колаборативне онлайн навчання. У наступному параграфі подано огляд історії віртуального обміну у Сумському державному університеті, аналізуються його результати та розкріваються найкращі практики. Нарешті, схарактеризовано потенційні можливості та обмеження інтернаціоналізації університетських програм, а таким чином, викладання та навчання.Современное высшее образование сталкивается с рядом тенденций. В этой работе авторы пытались сосредоточить внимание на одной из них, а именно на интернационализации в Европе и Украине. Во-первых, во введении представлена концепция ​​виртуальной интернационализации, обозначена терминология и классификация. Далее представлена ​​особая форма виртуальной интернационализации, такая как: международное коллаборативное онлайн обучение. В следующем параграфе представлен обзор истории виртуального обмена в Сумском государственном университете, анализируются его результаты и раскрываются лучшие практики. Наконец, охарактеризованы потенциальные возможности и ограничения интернационализации университетских программ, а следовательно, преподавания и обучения.There are many trends that higher education is facing these days. In this paper, the authors attempted to keep the focus on one of them, namely, internationalisation in Europe and Ukraine. Firstly, the introduction presents virtual internationalisation, outlines the terminology and classification. Next, a special form of virtual internationalisation, i.e. COIL, is presented. The following paragraph gives an overview of the history of virtual exchange at Sumy State University, analyses its outcomes, and shares best practices.
