Abstract Dynamics of loss of graphite under influence of atmospheric oxygen was investigated during wear of electrothermal atomizer (ETA) of atomic-absorption spectrometer (AAS) S-600, as one of factors resulting to increase of established temperature of heating of the furnace. The various examples of loss of a material of atomizer in conditions of performance of routine measurements are given. The influence of the mass change and of the volume change of graphite tubes is shown as a result of wears on time of life of atomizer.
