Abstract The system of pragmatic principles is the basis of coining and use of abbreviations in interpersonal communication. Authors of SMS text messages are guided by the law of speech means economy which lies in guaranteeing maximum quantity of information per unit time transmission, in increase of the communicative function of the language. Students should be knowledgeable of various colloquial and slang new formations, neologisms and different types of abbreviations which serve this purpose.
