This paper identifies the major determinants of the net interest margin for the group of developed and developing countries. The author use a two-stage panel regressions of the generalized method of moments (generalized method of moments, GMM), as well as the Lerner index (Lerner index). The results can be divided into three groups: a) all sample, b) the group of developed countries), the group of developing countries. The main results suggest that the main factors determining the net interest margin in developed countries, are operating- onnye costs, capital adequacy, interest rate risk, the size of banks, inflation, economic growth and the level of taxes. While the major determinants of net interest margin in developing countries, include: capital adequacy, credit risk, interest payments, the cost of maintaining reserve levels efficiency and level of taxes. In general, operating expenses are the most important variable responvennoy for an increase in net interest margin for the whole sample.
