Abstract	Розглядаються категорії конкуренції як головного регулятора функціонування ринкової економіки та конкурентоспроможності як критерію визначення конкурентної позиції суб’єкта господарської діяльності Two categories – the category of competition as the main regulator of market economy functioning and the category of competitiveness as the criterion for the defining of an economic entity competitive position are studied. Comparative analysis of the most frequently used definitions of the term competitiveness has been done, their common features and distinctions being revealed; economic content of the notion “competitiveness” of the economic entity has been revised; the interdependence between competition and competitiveness in the mechanism of market economy as well as the patterns of competitive enterprise behaviour have been investigated.
