Historians study records of the past events and prepare new records based on their research. These records are commonly can be called “history”. History as a branch of knowledge that deals with the recording, analyzing, and correlating of past events. History is continuous methodical record of public events; study of growth of nations, it’s a science dealing with the development of human society. History is an ancient science. The past has left many traces, including traditions, folk tales, works of art, archaeological objects, and the books and other written records. Historians use all these sources, but they mainly study the past as it has been recorded in written documents. Historians study all aspects of past human life-social and cultural conditions as well as political and economical events [1]. The aim is to analyze the role of English language for students majoring in History.Item The importance of learning English in a globalised world(Sumy State University, 2025) Bilovodska, V.In the 21st century, English has emerged as a global communication tool, serving as a universal medium in various fields such as science, technology, business, and culture. According to the British Council, over 1.5 billion people worldwide study English as a second language, and more than 80% of scientific publications are written in English (Graddol, 2006). This linguistic dominance places new demands on individuals’ language skills as well as on educational and professional institutions. In contemporary academic practice, English serves as the lingua franca of the scientific community. Hyland (2015) notes that approximately 98% of publications in the natural sciences appear in English-language journals. This trend requires scientists, regardless of their country of origin, to master professional English terminology. Його використання сприятиме підвищення рівня володіння іноземною мовою раніше досягнутого та до формування навичок виконання відповідних завдання з галузі історії та археології.Item Features of English dialects in the UK(Sumy State University, 2024) Selyukova, S.The United Kingdom is known for its linguistic diversity, which is reflected in the variety of English dialects spoken across different regions. Standard English serves as a formal mode of communication and represents the grammatical and pronunciation standards that are taught in educational institutions and used in official contexts across the country. Cockney English, which originated in the working-class communities of London's East End, is characterized by a distinct pronunciation that involves dropping the "h" sound and the use of rhyming slang. Estuary English, on the other hand, evolved from the areas surrounding the River Thames and is considered more mainstream. It features a softened accent and vocabulary that share similarities with Cockney English. Welsh English includes phonological, grammatical, and lexical peculiarities that are unique to Wales and blend with the conventions of Standard English. Scottish English encompasses an array of dialects that have distinct features in pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, shaped by regional nuances. Irish English reflects the historical and linguistic heritage of Ireland and features variations across the country. It integrates elements from the Irish Gaelic language alongside its distinctive grammatical structures and vocabulary [4]. The UK hosts a multitude of regional variations beyond these notable dialects, each with its unique flavor shaped by historical, cultural, and geographical influences. These 9 dialects are widespread in the UK, and in our research, we will analyze them in detail.Item In-person participation in TESOL 2024 International Convention & Expo: discovering new trends in the TESOL field(Sumy State University, 2024) Коробова, Юлія Володимирівна; Korobova, Yuliia VolodymyrivnaFrom the 20th to the 23rd of March, 2024, I was honored to attend the in-person international conference “TESOL-24 International Convention & Expo” in Tampa, Florida (USA) as an exchange participant of the Methods of Training Pre-Service English Teachers exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of English Language Programs through the English Access Microscholarship Program. The Convention is the largest professional development event in the TESOL field. This year it united thousands of leading specialists in teaching English from different parts of the world with hundreds of education sessions, and more than 60 exhibitions. It offers professional development opportunities to English language educators at all levels from around the world. In lively interactive sessions, educators develop a global perspective through the exchange of ideas and practices. English, being at the forefront of technological innovation and scientific discoveries, holds a dominant position as a global language, exerting influence on numerous national languages worldwide. This influence presents a dual effect: while it enriches national vocabularies, it also poses challenges to their organic development. Given the increasing attention to the impact of English on other languages, this essay holds relevance and significance in contemporary discourse. A very interesting innovation is the use of chatbots for language teaching. Teaching English is a challenging task, especially when it comes to non-native speakers. Many students struggle to learn English due to its complex grammar rules, vocabulary, and pronunciation. However, with the help of ChatGPT, teaching English can become much easier and more effective. That is why this topic is relevant and interesting. We have decided to highlight the issue of team teaching as we have our own teaching experience together with the Peace Corps volunteer who came to Sumy State University to work on the project “Teaching English as a Foreign Language”. The experiment lasted for two years. In the course of our collaboration we were able to observe the progress in students’ knowledge, increase in their linguistic competence, motivation and interest. Many students started attending weekly meetings of the English Club in order to improve their spoken English, broaden their worldview through intercultural communication and enrich vocabulary. Now, when after a two-year stay at Foreign Languages Department our volunteer has gone home, we want not to forget the acquired experience, to save and share the achievements obtained over that period of time.Item Written peer response is an important tool in English for academic purposes(Sumy State University, 2017) Башлак, Ірина Анатоліївна; Башлак, Ирина Анатольевна; Bashlak, Iryna AnatoliivnaOver the past fifteen years, the process approach to composition, which was originally developed for first language instruction, has become popular among ESOL writing teachers. A key component of this approach is peer response (also known as peer review, peer feedback, peer editing, and peer evaluation),in which students read each other’s papers and provide feedback to the writer, usually answering specific questions the teacher has provided. In most cases the questions focus on organization and style, rather than surface-level grammar or spelling mistakes.
