The effect of partial nitrogen pressure PN (with constant bias potential Ub = –200 V applied to the substrate) on the phase-composition variation, the size of crystallites, and their relation to the microstructure and hardness was investigated. An increase in the nitrogen pressure resulted in the formation of two phases with characteristic BCC (the lattice period is 0.342 nm) and FCC lattices with averaged nanocrystallite sizes of 15 and 2 nm. At a high pressure of 0.5 Pa, crystallites in the FCC phase with a lattice period of 0.437 nm grew in size to ~7 nm. The hardness of deposited coatings with larger (3.5 nm) FCC-phase crystallites and smaller (7 nm) BCC-phase crystallites was enhanced considerablyItem Structure and Physicomechanical Properties of NbN-Based Protective Nanocomposite Coatings: A Review(Pleiades Publishing, Ltd, 2016) Погребняк, Олександр Дмитрович; Погребняк, Александр Дмитриевич; Pohrebniak, Oleksandr Dmytrovych; Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Rogoz, V.M.; Erdybaeva, N.K.; Plotnikov, S.V.This review summarizes the present-day achievements in the study of the structure and properties of protective nanocomposite coatings based on NbN, NbAlN, and NbSiN prepared by a variety of modern deposition techniques. It is shown that a change in deposition parameters has a significant effect on the phase composition of the coatings. Depending on the magnitude of negative potential on the substrate, the pressure of nitrogen or a nitrogen–argon mixture in the chamber, and the substrate temperature, it is possible to obtain coatings containing different phases, such as NbN and SiNx (Si3N4), AlN, and NbAl2N. It is found that, in the case of formation of the ε-NbN phase, the coatings become very hard; their hardness achieves values on the order of 53 GPa. At the same time, they remain thermally stable at temperatures of up to 600°C, chemically inert, and resistant to wear. The effect of the nanograin size, the volume fraction of boundaries and interfaces, and the point defect concentration on the physicomechanical properties of these coatings is described. Niobium nitride-based coatings can be used in superconducting systems and single-photon detectors; they are capable of operating under the action of strong magnetic fields of up to 20 T; they can be used in integrated logic circuits and applied as protective coatings of machine parts, edges of cutting tools, etc.Item Physical and mechanical properties of nanostructured (Ti-Zr-Nb)N coatings obtained by vacuum-arc deposition method(Society of Polish Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Petrov, Serhii Oleksandrovych; Erdybaeva, N; Eskermesov, D.By vacuum-arc evaporation of multielement Ti+Zr+Nb cathode in nitrogen atmosphere, (Ti-Zr-Nb)N coatings have been deposited on steel substrates. The coatings are characterized by a columnar structure with nanosized (10-63 nm) crystallites of the main FCC nitride phase (Ti-Zr-Nb)N. Such coatings seem to having prospects as protective ones for couples of friction and cutting tools.Item The microstructure of a multielement nanostructured (TiZrHfVNbTa)N coating and its resistance to irradiation with Au– ions(Pleiades Publishing, Ltd, 2015) Погребняк, Олександр Дмитрович; Погребняк, Александр Дмитриевич; Pohrebniak, Oleksandr Dmytrovych; Yakushchenko, I.V.; Sobol, O.V.; Beresnev, V.M.; Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Oyoshi, K.; Amekura, H.; Takeda, Y.The formation of a phase with a FCC lattice of the NaCl structure type is observed following the deposition of a multielement nanostructured (TiZrHfVNbTa)N coating. An increase in pressure results in a change in the preferred orientation of crystallite growth from the [100] axis perpendicular to the growth plane to [111]. The implantation of negative Au– ions with a dose of 1 × 1017 cm–2 and a concentration of 2.1 at % leads to the formation of a disordered polycrystalline structure with no preferred orientation of the FCC phase, reduces the size of nanocrystallites from 8 to 1–3 nm in a layer with a depth of up to 30–35 nm, and increases the nanohardness to 33.0 GPa. The large difference in atomic radii of refractory metals and the reduction in the size of nanograins in the coating contribute to an increase in hardness (51 GPa).Item Investigation of nanoscale TiN/MoN multilayered systems, fabricated using Arc evaporation(Polish Academy of Science, Institute of Physics, 2015) Погребняк, Олександр Дмитрович; Погребняк, Александр Дмитриевич; Pohrebniak, Oleksandr Dmytrovych; Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Abadias, G.; Eyidi, D.; Beresnev, V.M.; Sobol, O.V.; Postolnyi, B.O.; Zukowski, P.Using the vacuum-arc evaporation method we fabricated periodic multilayered TiN/MoN structures with different bilayer periods λ ranging from 8 to 100 nm. We found that molybdenum nitride and titanium nitride layers grown on steel show local partial epitaxy and columnar growth across interfaces. A molybdenum-titanium carbide interlayer was evidenced between the substrate and the multilayer. Molybdenum nitride and titanium nitride layers contain small (5÷30 nm) grains and are well crystallized with (100) preferred orientation. They were identified as stoichiometric fcc TiN and cubic γ-M2N. Non-cubic molybdenum nitride phases were also detected. The hardness of the obtained structures achieved great values and maximal hardness was 31÷41.8 GPa for the multilayered structure with a 8 nm period. Hardness of the obtained coatings is 25÷45% higher in comparison with the initial single-layer nitride coatings, plasticity index of multilayered structure is 0.075.Item Structure and Mechanical Properties of Multilayered Nanostructured TiN/ZrN Ion-plasma Coatings(Sumy State University, 2015) Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Postolnyi, B.O.; Grankin, S.S.; Beresnev, V.M.; Stolbovoy, V.A.; Zhollybekov, B.; Koltunowicz, T.N.Multilayered coatings based on TiN/ZrN with different thickness of bilayers were deposited on steel substrates using vacuum arc deposition of a cathodes (C-PVD method). Thickness of bilayer strongly depended on deposition conditions and varied in the range 39 – 305 nm, total thickness of the coatings were 11-19 μm. Mechanical and tribotechnical characteristics of the coatings were investigated in the paper as well as its microstructure. Influence of the bilayer thickness on the properties of the coatings were explored.Item The effect of nanolayer thickness on the structure and properties of multilayer TiN/MoN coatings(Springer, 2014) Погребняк, Олександр Дмитрович; Погребняк, Александр Дмитриевич; Pohrebniak, Oleksandr Dmytrovych; Beresnev, V.M.; Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Постольний, Богдан Олександрович; Постольный, Богдан Александрович; Postolnyi, Bohdan Oleksandrovych; Abadias, G.; Chartier, P.; Andreev, A.A.; Sobol, O.V.The effect of nanolayer thickness on the structure and properties of nanocomposite multilayer TiN/MoN coatings is revealed. The multilayer (alternating) TiN/MoN coatings are prepared by the Arc PVD method. The selected thickness of the nanolayers is 2, 10, 20, and 40 nm. The formation of two phases—TiN (fcc) and γ-Mo2N—is found. The ratio of Ti and Mo concentrations varies with varying layer thickness. The maximum hardness value obtained for different thicknesses of the layers does not exceed 28– 31 GPa. The stability of TiN/MoN during cutting and tribological tests is significantly higher than that of products with TiN coatings. The nanostructured multilayer coatings with layer thicknesses of 10 and 20 nm exhibit the lowest friction coefficient of 0.09–0.12.Item Influence of Deposition Parameters and Thermal Annealing on the Structure and Properties of Nitride Coatings (TiHfZrVNb)N(Polish Academy of Science Institute of Physics, 2014) Погребняк, Олександр Дмитрович; Погребняк, Александр Дмитриевич; Pohrebniak, Oleksandr Dmytrovych; Abadias, G.; Chartier, P.; Takeda, Y.; Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Yakuschenko, I.V.; Береснев, В'ячеслав Мартинович; Береснев, Вячеслав Мартынович; Beresnev, V'yacheslav Martinovic; Krause-Rehberg, R.; Kolesnikov, D.A.; Partyka, J.Results of structure, phase composition, physical and mechanical properties and tribological properties investigations of nitride high-entropy coatings (TiZrHfVNb)N are presented in the paper. Proton microbeam (m-PIXE), X-ray diffraction method, including method of X-ray strains measurements, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy analysis, microhardness testing and nanoindentation were used. Thermal annealing (t = 600 C) influence on defect profiles, structure and element distribution in the coatings was investigated. It was found that thermal treatment of coatings leads to changing of defect profiles and to element redistribution. Also we can say that it influences less on grain size changing. Investigated (TiZrHfVNb)N coatings demonstrate high values of hardness and excellent wear resistance.Item Properties of Multilayered Nanoscale TiN/MoN Coatings, Fabricated Using Arc Evaporation(Sumy State University, 2014) Погребняк, Олександр Дмитрович; Погребняк, Александр Дмитриевич; Pohrebniak, Oleksandr Dmytrovych; Бондар, Олександр В`ячеславович; Бондарь, Александр Вячеславович; Bondar, Oleksandr Viacheslavovych; Abadias, G.; Eyidi, D.; Zhollybekov, B.Using vacuum-arc evaporation method we fabricated periodic multilayered TiN/MoN coatings with different bilayer periods ranging from 8 to 100 nm.
