The influence of authentic materials on the development of affective factors in the context of contemporary foreign language teaching
(Sumy State University, 2025) Marković, M.
A real turning point in the field of foreign language teaching was made in the 20th century by a communicative approach that collected the most useful characteristics and strategies from previous methods, which is the reason why it is considered eclectic. Durbaba states that within the communicative approach, the focus from linguistic knowledge, which includes knowledge of grammatical rules and vocabulary, is extended to the development of communicative competence, which includes the use of language as a means of communication and intercultural communicative action. Emphasis is placed on learning the language in real communicative situations, so that when students leave their classrooms, they will be able to navigate communication that will be completely authentic. This is one of the main reasons why the implementation of authentic materials started.

The power of sel in teaching a foreign language
(Sumy State University, 2025) Kushnirova, P.; Таценко, Наталія Віталіївна; Tatsenko, Nataliia Vitaliivna
In the modern world, knowledge and technical skills are no longer the only factors that define success. Social and emotional learning (SEL) has become a crucial component of personal development and effective education. SEL is the process through which individuals acquire and apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Many researchers agree that emotional intelligence is as important as academic performance [1]. While SEL is often associated with general education, its value in foreign language teaching is profound and multi-dimensional. When applied in the context of foreign language instruction, SEL takes on a special role. Language learning is not purely cognitive – it is deeply emotional and social. Students often feel vulnerable when speaking in a new language. Fear of making mistakes, embarrassment, and anxiety can hinder participation. SEL helps create a supportive environment where students feel safe to take linguistic risks. By fostering self-awareness and emotional regulation, learners become more confident and resilient. They learn to manage frustration, stay motivated during challenges, and celebrate their progress.
