Wikipedia-based projects as real-world tasks in English language
(Sumy State University, 2025) Marchenko, Y.
Problem Statement. In the current context of Ukraine's foreign policy transformation and gradual integration into the European space, the need for English language (EL) proficiency as a means of international communication and access to global educational, scientific, and cultural resources is steadily increasing. The Law of Ukraine “On the Use of the English Language in Ukraine” (Article 1) defines English as the language of international communication, thereby emphasizing its priority in the system of language training. According to the EF English Proficiency Index 2024, Ukraine ranks 40th out of 116 countries in terms of English language proficiency, which indicates the need for a qualitative update of teaching approaches. In this regard, the search for effective teaching methods that can ensure the practical value of acquired knowledge and the development of language competence in an authentic context becomes increasingly relevant. One such approach is the implementation of Wikipedia-based projects, which serve as examples of tasks oriented toward real-world communicative situations. These projects not only align with the goals of modern education and national priorities, but also promote active student engagement in the global information environment [1, с. 13, 33–37, 90–100].

(Класичний фаховий коледж Сумського державного університету, 2025) Reva, V.D.
The landscape of language learning is continuously evolving, with technological advancements playing a pivotal role in shaping new pedagogical approaches. Among these innovations, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into educational practices has garnered significant attention, particularly within pre-higher education. The global AI in education market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 40% from 2021 to 2027, reaching a market size of US$10 billion. Notably, a growing trend among college students is the adoption of AI-powered tools and platforms as a supplementary or even primary means of learning English, moving beyond traditional methods such as human tutors and online learning platforms. This shift reflects the increasing accessibility and sophistication of AI technologies, which offer personalized and adaptive learning experiences. Understanding the prevalence and impact of this phenomenon is crucial for educators, curriculum developers, and technology providers alike. This paper aims to explore the transformation of English language learning within the student environment through the lens of AI adoption, investigating its potential benefits and challenges.
