We have decided to highlight the issue of team teaching as we have our own teaching experience together with the Peace Corps volunteer who came to Sumy State University to work on the project “Teaching English as a Foreign Language”. The experiment lasted for two years. In the course of our collaboration we were able to observe the progress in students’ knowledge, increase in their linguistic competence, motivation and interest. Many students started attending weekly meetings of the English Club in order to improve their spoken English, broaden their worldview through intercultural communication and enrich vocabulary. Now, when after a two-year stay at Foreign Languages Department our volunteer has gone home, we want not to forget the acquired experience, to save and share the achievements obtained over that period of time.Item An American Fail: Reflections of a U.S. Man Abroad(Sumy State University, 2017) Quam, Ph.Language is a form of currency. Every one of us deals in it daily. We exchange, barter, argue, persuade, describe and narrate with language. And just as some monetary currencies are more valued than others, language currencies are treated much the same way. In fact, I’d wager that if one were to match the strongest world monies to the country’s native language, one would find the so-called global languages at the top, and the English language chief among them. I feel confident that someone has done this already – or else, no one needs to because the results would not be all that surprising. But, as an educator, I must keep this language-as-currency metaphor in mind because it helps my frame of mind in the classroom, and keeps me cognizant of just how fortunate I am to be where I am from and speak the language I speak.Item Psychological and Pedagogical Foundations for Future Seafarers’ English-Language Communicative Competency Development(Sumy State University, 2017) Ohorodnyk, N.Y.The general tendency of the present to regard the foreign language as a socially and personally important factor steps up the possibilities for the specialist’s self-realization and ensures his career success. Seafarers’ maritime English communicative competence is undoubtedly one of the fundamental indicators of their general professional competency as well as an essential feature of their identity with the profession.Item Learnability and Issues(Sumy State University, 2017) Mysak, I.I.Have you noticed that we, English language instructors, have currently been teaching our students topical issues as well as relevant skills via English rather than English itself purely? Why does it work more efficiently than teaching the language itself? Two constituent aspects are: appealing to the all-human values, which, by default, exist inside everyone, and providing the sheltering opportunity for the students to be concealed at the rear of the language. Students plunge into relevant and applicable enviroment of topics where they feel in tune with the times. The other benefit is the elements of escapism from the responsibility of learning the strict rules of grammar, for instance, and drilling them in multiple exercises. Thus, they acquire new information together with learning both life skills and language skills. These two merge into one in the 21st century, i.e. learnability.Item Blended Learning: Advantages and Disadvantages in the EFL Classroom(Sumy State University, 2017) Красуля, Алла Вікторівна; Красуля, Алла Викторовна; Krasulia, Alla ViktorivnaLanguage education refers to the process and practice of acquiring a second/foreign language. A key component of this approach is peer response (also known as peer review, peer feedback, peer editing, and peer evaluation),in which students read each other’s papers and provide feedback to the writer, usually answering specific questions the teacher has provided. In most cases the questions focus on organization and style, rather than surface-level grammar or spelling mistakes.Item Specific collective nouns(Sumy State University, 2017) Початко, Тетяна Володимирівна; Початко, Татьяна Владимировна; Pochatko, Tetiana VolodymyrivnaHarry Blamires is widely known for his works of literary history and criticism.
