Aim: To compare pathomorphological changes in the venous wall of large diameter great saphenous veins (GSV) after endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) using wavelengths of 1470 nm and 1940 nm. Materials and Methods: We studied 120 specimens of great saphenous veins from 30 patients with chronic venous disease with largediameter (>1 cm). Patients were randomly divided into two groups. The 1st group received EVLA using wavelengths of 1470 nm, the 2nd group received EVLA using wavelengths of 1940 nm. Four specimens were taken at the level of the lower third of the thigh after laser coagulation in each patient. Vein specimens were processed for histological studies. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses were performed to assess the degree of wall changes. Results: The share of satisfactory results when using 1470 nm laser wavelengths is 83.3%, while when using 1940 nm laser wavelengths this result is 93.3%. When using both wavelengths of laser irradiation with a GSV diameter of more than 1 cm, no unsatisfactory results are observed. Conclusions: Obtained in our study data confirmed efficacy of the 1470 and 1940 nm endovenous laser ablation in the treatment of the large size GSV (more than 10 mm). Histological exams show preferability in the 1940 nm EVLA versa 1470 nm, considering the excellent result in the uniformity of distribution and safety in the deepness of the thermal injury.

The role of prolactin (PRL) and its receptors in the initiation and development of benign breast tumors (BBT) has not been sufficiently studied. An imbalance in the system of hormone homeostasis is crucial in the development of BBT. In particular, an association between elevated prolactin levels and the development of BBT has been reported. Our study showed no significant differences between PRL receptor (PRL-R) expression in BBT tissue under normal and elevated serum PRL levels. There was also no significant correlation between age, PRL-R expression in BBT tissue, intact tissue, and PRL level in the serum. There was a strong significant correlation (p < 0.01; r = 0.92) between PRL-R expression in BBT samples and intact breast tissue, which did not depend on the serum PRL level. There was also no significant difference in the expression of the proliferative marker Ki-67 in BBT tissues from women with normal and elevated levels of serum PRL (p > 0.05). No signs of PRL and its receptors were detected in the BBT cystic fluid women with elevated serum PRL levels. In summary, our prospective study showed that the expression of PRL-R in the tissue of BBT and physiological breast tissue does not depend on the level of serum PRL.

Trichosomoides crassicauda (T. crassicauda) is a parasite commonly localized in the urinary bladder (UB) of laboratory and wild rats. The presence of these helminths can influence the prediction of pathological changes in the UB. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to make a comprehensive study of the features of the morphological changes in the UB wall of white laboratory rats as a result of T. crassicauda infestation. The study was performed on male rats using histological (Hematoxyline-Eosin and Alcian Blue staining) and immunohistochemical (Ki-67, Hsp70, Hsp90α, CD3 and CD20) methods. T. crassicauda was detected in both urine and UB samples. Morphological changes were observed as disruption in urothelial cell stratification and insignificant proliferative and immune responses in the UB. Increased heat shock protein levels were observed which may suggest a natural body’s resistance to this parasite.

Bacterial protein domains with a novel Ig-like foldtarget human CEAC AM receptors
(John Wiley and Sons, 2021) Sorge, N.M.; Bonsor, D.A.; Deng, L.; Lindahl, E.; Schmitt, V.; Линдін, Микола Сергійович; Лындин, Николай Сергеевич; Lyndin, Mykola Serhiiovych; Schmidt, A.; Nilsson, O.R.; Brizuela, J.; Boero, E.; Sundberg, E.J.; Strijp, J.A.G.; Doran, K.S.; Singer, B.B.; Lindahl, G.; McCarth, A.J.
Streptococcus agalactiae, also known as group B Streptococcus (GBS), is the major cause of neonatal sepsis in humans. A critical step to infection is adhesion of bacteria to epithelial surfaces. GBS adhesins have been identified to bind extracellular matrix components and cellular receptors. However, several putative adhesins have no host binding partner characterised. We report here that surfaceexpressed b protein of GBS binds to human CEACAM1 and CEACAM5 receptors. A crystal structure of the complex showed that an IgSF domain in b represents a novel Ig-fold subtype called IgI3, in which unique features allow binding to CEACAM1. Bioinformatic assessment revealed that this newly identified IgI3 fold is not exclusively present in GBS but is predicted to be present in adhesins from other clinically important human pathogens. In agreement with this prediction, we found that CEACAM1 binds to an IgI3 domain found in an adhesin from a different streptococcal species. Overall, our results indicate that the IgI3 fold could provide a broadly applied mechanism for bacteria to target CEACAMs.

Heavy metals (HM) belong to our vital activity's chemical components, which can be essential, potentially dangerous, and dangerous. Their acceptable concentration present in all layers of the biosphere. Simultaneously, excessive environmental pollution causes the disruption of the living organism’s microecology and imbalanced accumulation of HM in the organs. Besides, it is rather difficult to predict the pollutant effect on the body, as the organs and systems may have different sensitivity. One of these organs that can be exposed to the impact of exogenous factors is the uterus. Moreover, the unknown genesis of HM action on the uterus can lead to severe disorders of reproductive health. The aim of our study was to study the peculiarities of the chemical composition accumulation in the rat`s uterus wall under the experimental HM salts mixture influence.
