Abstract In the process of word-building not only the new lexical units are forming, but also the ways of their appearing. Shortening can be considered as one of the widespread ways of word-formation of the last decades, among which the blending may be considered. The facts, that were given in the article, illustrate, that the special property of blends are formal and semantic connection with the other lexical units, structural and semantic motivation.
