Abstract Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory disease of zoonotic origin by the SARS coronavirus. This is a serious form of pneumonia. It is caused by a virus that was first identified in 2003. Infection with the SARS virus caused acute respiratory distress (severe breathing difficulty) and sometimes death. SARS is a dramatic example of how quickly world travel spread a disease. Researches are working on several types of vaccines for SARS, but none has been tested in humans. If SARS infections resume, follow these safety guidelines if you’re caring for an infected person.
