Abstract The article studies ultrasound effect on molecules of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) and on critical micelle concentration (CMC). Ultrasound had no effect on degradation and decomposition of water molecules. Smallangle X-ray scattering was applied to study miscellar solutions of SDS before and after sonication. X-ray spectra were analyzed with an approach which does not take the micelle model into consideration. On ultrasonic treatment, diameter of SDS micelle nucleus decreased from 2.6 to 2.4 nm and of the whole micelle from 6.0 to 4.6 nm. Obtained results were explained on the basis of a hypothesis of micelle dual properties. Ultrasound increases presence of high density liquid (HDL) in a micelle at the cost of low density liquid (LDL).
