Abstract The borrowing of words from other languages is always accompanied by lexical, semantic, and phonetic adaptation. This is especially true for the English language, which throughout its history has been in active linguistic contact with many languages: firstly Celtic, then Latin and Scandinavian, followed by French, Italian, Spanish, German, Indian, Japanese, and others. Such an open nature of English has led to significant enrichment of its vocabulary, but at the same time — to numerous phonetic changes associated with the integration of foreign vocabulary into its phonological system.
