Based on the analysis of best world practices in soft skills development, the article’s authors conclude that transferable skills are fundamental to the formation of professional competencies. This conclusion has become possible based on a thorough theoretical review and self-report questionnaire findings. The article describes implementing a 21-day-skill-acquisition teaching technique to form and develop students’ hard and soft skills. The intervention conducted at the Department of Germanic Philology, Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, Sumy State University, targeted the 1st-year BA and 1st-year MA Translation Studies students who created their content using modern video blogging technology. На основі аналізу найкращих світових практик розвитку м’яких навичок, автори статті дійшли висновку, що гнучкі навички є підґрунтям для формування професійних компетенцій. Цей висновок став можливим на основі ретельного теоретичного огляду та результатів анкети-самозвіту. У статті описано застосування прийомів інтенсивного навчання задля формування та розвитку твердих і м’яких навичок студентів протягом 21 дня. Педагогічне дослідження, проведене на кафедрі германської філології факультету іноземної філології та соціальних комунікацій Сумського державного університету, було спрямоване на студентів-філологів 1 курсу бакалаврату та 1 курсу магістратури, які створювали контент за допомогою сучасних технологій відеоблогінгу. У цій роботі автори намагалися зосередити увагу на одній з них, а саме: на інтернаціоналізації в Європі та Україні. По-перше, у вступі представлено концепцію віртуальної інтернаціоналізації, окреслено термінологію та класифікацію. Далі представлена особлива форма віртуальної інтернаціоналізації, така як: міжнародне колаборативне онлайн навчання. У наступному параграфі подано огляд історії віртуального обміну у Сумському державному університеті, аналізуються його результати та розкріваються найкращі практики. With digital education on the rise educational technologies are transforming the way we live, work, and learn. They are gradually becoming a useful tool for English language teaching and learning. Modern students, who are considered to be ‘digital natives’, are inquisitive in nature. They become tech-savvy experts in operating various functions of contemporary gadgets that are more advanced and sophisticated with every coming year. In this light, it has been proven by an array of EFL practitioners to be a very useful and convenient tool for teaching and learning anywhere anytime (Kukulska-Hulme et al, 2015; Macianskiene 2016; Venkatesh et al, 2016). To contribute to a rapidly growing body of theoretical research on educational technologies and language education, we developed a curriculum for a new interactive blended learning course ‘Innovative Educational Technologies in English as a Foreign Language Learning/Teaching’ for the undergraduate students within the Department of Germanic Philology, Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, Sumy State University, Ukraine. The course comprises a number of successful practices / approaches to digital literacy learning, current innovative instructional technologies for fostering intercultural communicative competency in EFL learning. The course is elaborated to provide pedagogical theories (primarily, cognitivism, constructivism and connectivism) and practical strategies for implementing technology in the university language learning and humanities curriculum to enhance student success. Thus far, the proposed course is innovative because it develops and optimizes well-known teaching / learning techniques; enables the implementation of better pedagogical solutions, learning strategies and educational technologies.Item Women and Philanthropy: the U.S. Experience that Сould be Transferred into the Ukrainian Context of Higher Education(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytet im. Issues of gender charity will be discussed and suggestions for creating fundraising opportunities for universities will be outlined.Item Students’ perceptions towards mobile learning in an English as a foreign language class(2020) Красуля, Алла Вікторівна; Красуля, Алла Викторовна; Krasulia, Alla Viktorivna; Saks, KatrinEmerging mobile pedagogy for English as a foreign language teaching makes portable devices a potentially beneficial tool for learning a foreign language. However, to date, there has been relatively little research on learning the relationships between Mobile-Assisted Language Learning and university students’ perceptions of this innovative teaching approach. In this paper, some of the existing research on the topic of mobile learning is reviewed to connect language learning, educational technology, and perceptions of learners towards the use of mobile technology to support language learning. The 1st-year students in the Germanic Philology Department at Sumy State University, Ukraine, were first exposed to a MALL experience, and then asked to express their thoughts on the incorporation of mobile devices into the language classroom. Research findings revealed overall positive attitudes and perceptions amongst the students surveyed. However, some technical and digital literacy challenges emerged during the intervention. Despite some constraints, the university students majoring in English indicated their readiness for mobile-assisted learning. The learning/teaching materials elaborated for the study might be useful for practitioners and researchers in the field of mobile pedagogy for EFL teaching.Item Endowment as an Educational Fundraising Tool for Entrepreneurial University: the U.S. Experience versus Ukrainian Reality and Perspectives(Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, 2014) Красуля, Алла Вікторівна; Красуля, Алла Викторовна; Krasulia, Alla ViktorivnaEducational fundraising could pose significant challenges for Ukrainian universities in times of neoliberal ideology of contemporary educational reforms. The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the best fundraising practices in public US universities in order to implement them in the area of higher education in Ukraine. Examples and data published in a range of educational science journals as well as Ukrainian state laws are analyzed to highlight the purposes, features, and structure of university financial endowments. The article focuses on the “Triple Helix” model as one of the most effective schemes of university development. All things considered it can help Ukrainian universities carry on their social mission, funding various activities relating to education, research, and innovation.
