Лінгвістичні особливості скорочень

Abstract

Стаття присвячена дослідженню мовознавчого аспекту скорочених лексичних одиниць, що дає розуміння того, яким чином скорочення розвивається протягом часу, демонструє, якими особливостями наділена його структура. Протягом довгого періоду мовні скорочення є невід’ємною частиною людської комунікації. Сьогодні вони набули поширення як форма спілкування в соціальних мережах. За допомогою методу порівняння було встановлено різницю між такими поняттями як скорочення та абревіатура, яка полягає у тому, що абревіатури здебільшого утворюються завдяки поєднанню перших літер з різних слів, а скорочення – завдяки вилученню однієї з частин основи слова. Відповідно, метод зіставлення використано для виявлення спільної мети двох зазначених одиниць, яка представлена економним вираженням думок як на письмі, так і усно. У ході дослідження розглянуто види скорочень та особливості їхнього утворення: фонетичні, орфографічні, морфологічні, граматичні особливості. Доведено, що саме вони допомагають читачеві правильно зрозуміти матеріал, а також сформувати детальне уявлення про різні галузі людської діяльності. Як ілюстративний матеріал були наведені приклади англійських скорочень з розшифруванням та перекладом українською мовою. Метод спостереження допоміг виокремити риси, які притаманні групам скорочення – лексичній та графічній. Виявлено, що лексичні скорочення не потребують розшифрування і функціонують як самостійні мовні одиниці, а графічні, у свою чергу, навпаки, потребують тлумачення і не функціонують як самостійні. У статті продемонстровано, що складноскорочені слова розшифровуються за допомогою таких методів як аналіз контексту, робота зі словниками та іншими додатковими джерелами, аналіз структури скорочень. Зазначена важливість знань перекладача щодо правильного написання скорочення, урахування контекстуальних умов задля його розшифрування в процесі створення якісного перекладу. Підкреслено, що ознайомлення з цілим текстом є передумовою встановлення правильного значення скорочення.

The article is devoted to the study of the linguistic peculiarities of abbreviated lexical units. This aspect provides understanding of how an abbreviation develops in time and demonstrates what features are pertaining to its structure. For a long period, language shortenings are an indispensable part of human interaction. Today they are a widespread means of communication in social nets. Using the comparative method, it has been revealed that the difference between such concepts as abbreviations and shortenings consists in the fact that abbreviations are mainly built with the combination of the initial letters of different words, and shortenings – with the removal of a part of the word stem. Accordingly, comparative method is used to identify the common purpose of these two units, which consists in economy of expression of thoughts both in writing and orally. In the course of the study, the types of abbreviations and features of their formation are considered: phonetic, spelling, morphological, grammatical ones. It is proved that they help the reader to understand the material correctly, as well as to form a more detailed idea of various fields of human activity. As an illustrative material, some examples of English abbreviations with deciphering and translation into Ukrainian were given. The observation method helped to identify the features that were inherent in the groups of shortenings – lexical and graphic. It is revealed that lexical ones do not need to be deciphered, and they function as independent language units, while graphic units, in their turn, on the contrary, need to be interpreted, they do not function as independent ones. The article has found out that blendings are deciphered by means of such methods as context analysis, work with dictionaries and other additional sources, and analysis of the structure of abbreviations. The importance of translator’s knowledge of the correct abbreviation spelling and consideration of context conditions for its deciphering in the process of qualitative translation are identified. It is emphasized that the precondition for figuring out the correct meaning of an abbreviation is to read and understand the whole text.
